Healthy Takeout
Almost every single "get healthy" and "weight loss" document you read will tell you to skip the drive
through and make all of your meals yourself. This is really very true. But at times the last thing you want to do
is put together a whole meal for yourself and your family. Sometimes almost all you really want is to go to the
drive through and get home quickly. There is simply no reason that you shouldn't be able to make it happen once in
a while and be free of the guilt usually associated with "diet slips". You are capable of doing this because lots
of the popular joints are now promoting "healthy" menu alternatives to keep their businesses up. Here is how one
can find healthy food choices at the drive through.
Aim for the side dishes. It wasn't that long ago that French Fries were your sole side dish option at a
restaurant. Now virtually all of the popular fast food places have expanded their menus. Now plenty of them offer
salads. You could get chili. You might get baked potatoes. Fruit is generally offered. There are a lot of
alternatives that don't require eating one thing deep fried. When deciding on your dinner from the drive through,
pick out a variety of side items instead of choosing a pre-made "meal deal". You'll keep calorie and fatty food
count low and save yourself commitment.
Pick water, juice or milk as a drink. When you drink a big soft drink you are putting a whole bunch of
empty calories to your day. One helping of soda is eight oz.. That portion may contain numerous spoonfuls of sugar
in addition to at least a hundred calories. A fast food soft drink is typically a minimum of twenty ounces.
Usually, though, they are 30 ounces. This is the reason why just purchasing a soft drink will add cup fulls of
sugar and thousands of empty calories to your diet program. Water, fruit juice as well as milk, however, are far
better choices.
Choose your drive through based on whether it has more healthy options available. For instance, Arby's
doesn't offer hamburgers. Instead, the options include things like roast beef and chicken sandwiches, wraps and big
salads. Wendy's, not surprisingly, is known for its square burgers, even so the menu there has a bundle of
wholesome choices like salad, potatoes and chili. Most fast food dining places will not stoop to the harmful lows
seen at McDonald's.
Logic says that one of the best ways to stay balanced is to bypass the drive through and never eat fast
food. While, usually, this is a good strategy, if you make intelligent choices, there is no reason to feel guilty
for visiting a drive through one or two times a month. Sometimes what you need is to let other people make your
dinner. If you choose healthy things, the guilt usually associated with hitting the drive through shouldn't be so
bad.
